Emerald City by Electric

Seattle is layered — geographically, culturally, and ecologically. Puget Sound to the west, Lake Washington to the east, and the Cascade Range visible on a clear day from downtown. The city's hills, waterways, and surrounding forests give it a natural drama that's unusual for a major tech hub, and an e-bike or electric boat is the best way to access all of it.

The Burke-Gilman Trail connects the University District to Ballard and beyond — 18 miles of protected trail that's served Seattle cyclists for decades and is now heavily trafficked by e-bike commuters and visitors alike. The Lake Union waterfront is lined with electric kayak and electric boat rental operations, and guided tours of the lake provide unobstructed views of the Space Needle that the tourist sites completely fail to offer.

Puget Sound Electric boat tours explore the working waterfront, harbor seals, and the dramatic ferry traffic that's part of everyday Seattle life. The Olympic Peninsula — ferry-accessible from downtown — opens up old-growth rainforest e-bike riding that's unlike anything available in the lower 48. Seattle rewards the visitor who gets off the grid and onto two wheels.

Common Questions About Seattle

Tours that leave nothing behind but memories.
We currently feature 4 zero-emission tours in Seattle including electric kayak tours of Lake Union, electric boat tours of Puget Sound, and e-bike tours of the Burke-Gilman Trail connecting the University District to Ballard. Lake Union electric boat tours are particularly popular — they provide unobstructed Space Needle views that are impossible to get from land.
Yes. A ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge Island or Edmonds to Kingston gets you across the Sound without a car. From there, e-bike rentals let you explore the Kitsap Peninsula and the Olympic National Forest access roads. Guided day trips that include the ferry crossing plus a guided e-bike tour of the peninsula are available. The old-growth forest and coastal views are spectacular and completely different from the city.
Seattle's rain makes electric boat tours and indoor-focused e-bike tours the best options. Lake Union kayak and electric boat tours operate rain or shine — the lake has a different character in mist. For e-bikes, waterproof gear is provided and most guides adjust routes to use covered paths when possible. Electric boats are the original rainy-day Seattle activity.
E-bikes are allowed on most non-motorized trails below 4,000 feet elevation in Washington state. The Burke-Gilman Trail and the trail network around Discovery Park are popular e-bike touring routes. For alpine destinations, the state allows class 1 e-bikes on trails where traditional mountain bikes are permitted. Always check trail-specific regulations — some national parks and sensitive ecological areas restrict e-bikes.
